“You are the light of the world.”
Imagine yourself sitting quietly and meditating on this saying of Jesus or perhaps a saying from the Buddha or another great spiritual teacher. What thoughts, feelings, and/or insights come up? This style of meditation on "koans", or spiritual sayings, is a way of drawing our attention to life and opens us to the Spirit and transformation. They help us to draw attention to the vast mystery of life.
In addition to meditation with koans, we are dipping into other wells of spiritual practice including: lectio divina, mindfulness meditation, and breath prayers.
We meet each Thursday from 6-6:45p at Sycamore United Church of Christ, 1111 Navellier Street in El Cerrito. No previous experience with meditation is necessary and we sit in chairs. For more information about this practice, do visit Open Door Interfatih Zen where you can sign-up for a weekly e-devotional too.
